About: Shawn Chaddock
Missing in the "Erik" Fishing Boat Accident on July 3, 2011
Shawn Chaddock was born in Stockton, CA on June 27, 1962, and grew up in Petaluma and Santa Rosa. His mother struggled as a single parent to raise four children. Shawn and his wife, Joni, met in 1984 and were close friends for many years before marrying in January 1990. They have two grown children, Joshua, and Mehgan. The kids have fond memories of going to Lake Mendocino for summer camping trips, and riding bicycles with their dad.Shawn worked in the automotive field most of his life. He started out installing tires and over the years became an automotive master technician. He was successful in his field, and had a good reputation in the automotive industry. He loved cars, especially the classics. He had an opportunity to help one of his good friends restore his 1967 Chevelle, and was so proud of that car upon its completion. He always wanted to restore a 1963 Corvette, but never had the opportunity. Work and supporting his family always took precedence.
Shawn loved riding motorcycles, especially Harley’s. He didn’t ride much when the kids were growing up, but when Josh turned 18 he bought a 2008 Harley FLTR, which came to be known as “the great pumpkin” due to its enormous size and orange paint job. It was Shawn’s pride and joy. Shawn and Joni rode on several trips to Reno and Tahoe, and spent many weekends riding around Northern California. Shawn had the opportunity to ride with a group of friends throughout the Southwestern United States in 2009, and he talked about that trip for months upon his return.
Shawn worked hard and played hard all of his life. When the opportunity rose to go fishing or crabbing Shawn was always ready to go. He loved the ocean and had no fear on the water, and enjoyed the camaraderie of being out with other men who shared his passion. The fishing trip in Mexico came up at the last minute. He was so thrilled to have the opportunity to go and when he telephoned from Mexicali before their departure, you could almost hear him smiling through the phone.
In his last years, Shawn surrounded himself with friends, always calling them to get together and go for a ride, or just hang out. He had more fun with them over the last three years than at any other time in his life. He was a devoted and loving husband and his wife’s constant companion for 28 years. There was nothing he would not have done for Joni, for his kids, or for his friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
